Public spending on the state level in six federations. The impact of the 'federal bargain'

The aim of the project is to analyse how public spending on the state level in six federal systems is affected by socio-economic context and political factors. Statistical models basing on a time series cross sectional dataset are used for comparative analysis. The project does test classical hypothesis from political economy (parties’ ideology, rational choice behaviour of political actors, distribution conflicts within legislatures and governments) and also considers fiscal relations between the national and the state level as well as state-to-state relations.
