Neue wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin: Jing Shen, Ph.D.

Seit September 2015 ist Jing Shen, Ph.D., als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am MZES am Arbeitsbereich A, im Projekt A3.8 "Die Innenseite von Integration und Akkulturation - Die Lebenszufriedenheit von Migranten in Europa" (Projektleitung Professor Irena Kogan) tätig.

Jing Shen received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Toronto in November 2013. Her dissertation addresses the formation and consequences of labour market inequality in the context of China's transitional economy, from which her research interests extend to social inequality and stratification, job search, social networks and social capital, and social transformation of socialist societies. During her Ph.D. program, she worked as a research assistant on multiple projects, such as neighbourhood impacts on children’s school readiness, ethnic segregation in Canadian industries, and integration and labour market success of immigrants in Canada. Before joining the MZES, she held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy in the University of Lethbridge, Canada. There, she has contributed to a sub-project about global income inequality and care workers’ transnational migration, part of the Gender, Migration, and the Work of Care Project (http://www.cgsp.ca/). As a course instructor, she has taught courses at the undergraduate level in research methods, statistics, and family sociology. Her teaching interests also include social inequality and stratification, and economic sociology.
