Nate Breznau, Ph.D.
Profil/Werdegang
Nate Breznau received his PhD in Sociology from the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences in 2013. Before coming to Germany in 2009 he did a BA in Sociology and African-American Studies at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine; and an MA in Sociology at the University of Nevada, Reno. His research interests revolve around attitudes and preferences for redistribution and the usage of collective social resources. He is seeking grant money for a project at the MZES to investigate reciprocal feedback between public opinion and social welfare policy among rich democracies. This is an extension of his dissertation. It will have a macro-comparative part and a focused case study of Germany. His research interests are in developing theories of the distribution of income and welfare across societies, specifying empirical path models of these theories, and then testing various hypotheses on real-world data. His hope is to understand social inequality as derived from both political processes and social institutions.
