Doctoral Researcher

The DFG-funded project „Developments of Social Care Services in Europe“ is looking for a doctoral researcher

The position is limited to 3 years and part-time (65 % of full-time).

The MZES is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Mannheim dedicated to comparative European social research and the analysis of European integration processes. It is Germany’s largest university-based social science research centre. We seek to recruit a doctoral researcher for a project on the coordination of care between health care and long-term care systems in different European countries.

We offer the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree in an excellent research context at the MZES and the opportunity to present your work at national and international conferences.

The position requires:

  • Collaborating in research primarily in the field of health care systems and the coordination of health and long-term care services.
  • Conducting expert interviews in Sweden (in English or Swedish) and in Germany (in German).
  • Collaborating in German and English publications in scientific journals and in the project monography (in English).
  • Collaborating in project organisation and public relations work.

The position offers to candidates the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree.

We seek  a candidate who:

  • Holds an academic degree (Master, Diploma) in Sociology or another social science.
  • Has very good knowledge of health care systems and health care policies and good knowledge in comparative social policy.
  • Has very good knowledge in qualitative methods and some experience in conducting interviews.
  • Has a very good command of both written and spoken English and German.
  • Likes both teamwork and self-determined work.

The contract is of limited duration (3 years) as stipulated by the German Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz), starting preferably December 1, 2018. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and subject to public sector pay scheme TV-L E13.
