Expected and preferred retirement age in Germany: Former MZES researcher Moritz Heß wins Best Paper Award of the German Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics

Sociologist Moritz Heß has been awarded this year's Best Paper Award of the German Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics (DGGG, Section III for Social and behavioral gerontology) for excellent publications by young academics.

Moritz Heß's article "Expected and preferred retirement age in Germany" is an outcome of the research project "Determinants of Retirement Decisions in Europe and the United States: A Cross-National Comparison of Institutional, Firm-level and Individual Factors" and has been published in "Zeitschrift für Gerontologie und Geriatrie". In his article Moritz Heß examines discrepancies between the expected and the preferred retirement age of older workers in Germany and how these discrepancies differ between groups of older workers. The results show that especially older workers in vulnerable labour market positions would prefer an earlier retirement age.

The award winner has been announced at this year's annual conference of the German Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics in Stuttgart. The prize money is 1,000 Euro.
