New MZES Executive Board / grants at an all-time high

The sociologist Professor Dr. Frank Kalter is the new director of the Mannheimer Centre for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim as of February 2014. Professor Kalter (pictured in the front) succeeds the political scientist Professor Dr. Ruediger Schmitt-Beck (pictured in the back), who leaves the Executive Board after a three-year term as Director and a total of four years in the Board.

Frank Kalter has been part of the three-member Executive Board of the MZES since September 2009 as the head of Research Department A "European Societies and their Integration". This position will be assumed on a temporary basis by Professor Dr. Ebbinghaus, a former director of the MZES, until the sociologist Professor Dr. Irena Kogan will move to the top of Research Department A probably in summer. The Executive Board is completed by the political scientist Professor Dr. Marc Debus, who succeeds the long-term member of the Executive Board Professor Dr. Jan van Deth as head of Research Department B "European Political Systems and their Integration".

On the occasion of the presentation of the Annual Report 2013 Frank Kalter expressed his thanks to the outgoing members of the Executive Board: "Ruediger Schmitt-Beck and Jan van Deth can look back with pride on an enormously successful and, at the same time, labour-intensive time at the top of the largest institute of the University of Mannheim. On behalf of the entire MZES staff, I would like to express my gratitude to both for this commitment."

2013 was the institute's most successful year in terms of third-party funding since its founding in 1989.
