1.2.6 Organizational Features of the Projects
The specific characteristics of the various types of projects (Core,
Supplementary and Individual) reflect the relevance of these projects
for fulfilling the central task of the Mannheim Centre, which is to
carry out comparative European research and research into European integration.
In order to achieve a higher level of integration, resources of the
MZES are considered to be an 'incentive structure'. This structure
assigns first priority to those projects which correspond to the central
goal of the Centre (see sect. 2.1.2). The definition of different types
of projects, however, should not be considered as a rigid instrumentalization
of research planning. After all, content and arguments of a project
are crucial for planning and resource allocation.
