The Long Reach of Migration: The Effects of Migration over Generations and the Life Course
In this presentation I will introduce some of the ongoing research conducted at the theme group migration and migrants of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute. First of all, I will present work that focuses on the life course of the children of immigrants in a comparative perspective. Using both survey and population register data I will show how individual and family characteristics as well as cohort differences play a role for the demographic behaviour of children of immigrants. Secondly, I will present the research plans and first findings of the recently started ERC CoG Grant on the role of childhood internal mobility for later life outcomes. This will also include a discussion on how to advance the field further both theoretically and methodologically.
