The Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim offers a position of

A post-doctoral researcher (all genders welcome) for the ERC project PARFORM
(pay scale 13 TV-L, full time position, max. duration of contract 5 years)

The research project PARFORM, funded through the ERC Consolidator grant to Prof. Dr. Irena Kogan, focuses on the partner formation among young male refugees who have recently arrived in Germany. In particular, the importance of social media and online dating as well as the role of the host society are examined.

Your area of responsibility includes:

  • Coordination of the data collection as part of the PARFORM project (especially preparation of the collection, fieldwork monitoring, data quality control, data processing)
  • Independent research with PARFORM data
  • Teaching a course per semester (2 SWS)

Employment requirements:

  • Excellent PhD dissertation in social sciences (sociology, demography or related discipline)
  • Relevant publications, especially in internationally visible peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent knowledge of advanced methods of quantitative social research; knowledge of network analysis and/or multilevel modelling is an advantage
  • Experience with the conception and implementation of surveys, especially panel studies
  • Excellent team, communication and organizational skills, commitment and initiative
  • Excellent written and spoken German and very good English

The position should preferably start on February 1, 2021. Salary is based on the public sector pay scheme TV-L E13. The contract is in accordance with the German Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) and is of maximal duration of 5 years.
