The Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim offers the position of a

Post-doctoral researcher (all genders welcome) for the project STEMobile
(pay scale 13 TV-L, full time position, initial duration of contract 2 years)

In light of the growing demand for skilled labour force in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, STEMobile project examines the patterns of STEM representation in the education system and on the labour market in Germany as well as factors that contribute to the success of men and women with and without a migration background in STEM subjects. The focus will be in particular on the intersection of gender and ethnic origin. Several Germany-wide sources of individual data will be used for the empirical analyses, including PISA, TIMSS and PIRLS / IGLU data as well as data from the German Microcensus, GSOEP, NEPS and CILS4EU-DE.

Your area of responsibility includes:

  • Independent analyses of the secondary data, writing of scientific articles
  • Support in presenting the results in the form of publications and conference contributions

Employment requirements:

  • Excellent PhD dissertation in social sciences (sociology or related discipline)
  • Relevant publications, especially in internationally visible peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent knowledge of advanced methods of quantitative social research
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, commitment and initiative
  • Very good command in German and English (written and spoken)

The position should preferably start on January 1, 2021. Salary is based on the public sector pay scheme TV-L E13. The contract is in accordance with the German Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) and is of initial duration of 2 years. The position can in principle be shared.
