Due to its electoral and party system, France is a very particular case in comparative party and election studies. While this adds to the professional interest in empirical information about French electoral politics, the problem has been that comparable data are scarce. By administrating the CSES II module (Comparative Study of Electoral Systems, amended by a number of questions on leader traits and strategic voting) among a representative sample of French voters between the presidential and the parliamentary election of 2002, this project aims at diminishing that information gap.
