Applying the concepts of bonding and bridging social capital to empirical research

This article explores the differing potential of voluntary associations to build bonding and bridging social capital. On the basis of a representative German population study an empirical test of the validity of the theoretical differentiation between the two types of voluntary associations is conducted. Empirical results support the validity of the presented theoretical concept.
