Description: 

The first data set collected by Franz Rothenbacher and Georg Fertig comprises time series and cross sectional data on demographic developments, household and family structures in Germany from 1834 to 2010 mostly at the national level. This data set builds the data source for chapter 2 'Bevölkerung, Haushalte, Familien' (Population, Households, Families) of Thomas Rahlf, ed., (2015), Deutschland in Daten: Zeitreihen der Historischen Statistik (Germany in Data: Time Series of Historical Statistics). Bonn: Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, pp. 30–45.

The second  data set assembled by Marc Debus with the assistance of Torben Schütz comprises time series data on political participation in Germany from 1871 to 2013, especially on eligible voters, turnout and election results. This data set builds the data source for chapter 8 'Politische Partizipation' (Political Participation) of Thomas Rahlf, ed., (2015), Deutschland in Daten: Zeitreihen der Historischen Statistik (Germany in Data: Time Series of Historical Statistics). Bonn: Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, pp. 114–129.

Both data sets are part of a wider data base which altogether consists of 22 different sections, and represents the data source for the 22 chapters of the book: Thomas Rahlf, ed., Deutschland in Daten: Zeitreihen der Historischen Statistik. For chapter 2 'Bevölkerung, Haushalte, Familien' (Population, Households, Families) the main data work was carried out at the MZES by Franz Rothenbacher using existing data sets, like 'Historical Household and Family Statistics of Germany 1815–1990', 'The European Population since 1850–1945' and 'The European Population since 1945'. Where necessary, data were updated and extended up to the year 2010. For chapter 8 'Politische Partizipation' (Political Participation) the main data work was carried out at the MZES by Marc Debus with the assistance of Torben Schütz.
