(GLES) Umfragen und Medieninhaltsanalysen zur Kurzfristdynamik des Wahlkampfes
Forschungsfrage/Ziel:
Als Teil der Deutschen nationalen Wahlstudie GLES (German Longitudinal Election Study) umfasste dieses Projekt umfangreiche manuelle Inhaltsanalysen der täglichen Medienberichterstattung über die Wahlkampagnen der Bundestagswahlen 2009, 2013 und 2017 in den wichtigsten Abendnachrichten der vier großen Fernsehsender (zwei öffentlich-rechtliche: ARD und ZDF; zwei private: RTL und Sat.1) sowie in den sechs wichtigsten überregionalen Tageszeitungen (die großen Qualitätszeitungen FR, FAZ, SZ, WELT und TAZ sowie die führende Boulevardzeitung BILD). Die Analysen konzentrierten sich auf Aspekte der vermittelten Wahlkampfkommunikation wie Themenagendas, „Bias“ in der Berichterstattung (bzgl. Thematisierung und Bewertung von Parteien und Kandidaten) sowie strategische Informationen wie z.B. Koalitionssignale. Die gesammelten Daten ermöglichten somit umfangreiche deskriptive Analysen der Medienberichterstattung über die drei Wahlkämpfe und deren Dynamik, sowohl im Vergleich zwischen Medien als auch im Zeitverlauf, sowohl innerhalb der Wahlkämpfe als auch über die Wahlkämpfe hinweg. Die Inhaltsanalysen wurden parallel zu zwei kurzfristigen Umfragekomponenten der GLES angelegt, einer Rolling-Cross-Section-Umfrage und einem mehrwelligen Kurzzeitpanel, sodass die Zusammenführung dieser Daten anhand der Veröffentlichungsdaten und der Angaben der Befragungspersonen zur Mediennutzung problemlos möglich war.
Der Hauptzweck dieser Datenerhebung bestand darin, einen Beitrag zur Dateninfrastruktur der deutschen und internationalen Wahlforschung zu leisten. Zu diesem Zweck wurden die Datensätze unmittelbar nach Fertigstellung zur Veröffentlichung an GESIS übergeben. Die eigenen Forschungsinteressen des Projekts konzentrierten sich auf Analysen auf individueller Ebene zu den Auswirkungen von Medien-„Bias“ (bzgl. Thematisierung und Bewertung von Parteien und Kandidaten) auf die Einstellungen der Wähler zu diesen Akteuren. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass solche persuasiven Medieneffekte tatsächlich eine Rolle bei der Entscheidungsfindung der Wähler*innen bei den drei im Rahmen des Projekts untersuchten Wahlen gespielt haben, wobei Fernsehnachrichten stärkere Effekte hatten als Tageszeitungen.
