Giuseppe Carteny neuer wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter

Since March 2021 Giuseppe Carteny has been a researcher at the MZES in research area B in project B3.1838 ‘Illiberal Democrats’ (Directors Prof. Hermann Schmitt and Prof. Harald Schoen).

Giuseppe Carteny received his Ph.D. in Political Studies from the University of Milan in July 2021. His dissertation addresses whether and how varying levels of public contestation directly and indirectly affect individuals' confidence (or trust) in political and implementative institutions in contemporary East Asia. During his Ph.D. programme he worked for two years at the Center for East Asian Democratic Studies at the National Taiwan University (NTU), focusing on empirical analysis of political attitudes (e.g. social and political orientations, attitudes toward democracy and political institutions) and behaviour (mainly voting behaviour) in the East Asian region, in particular in Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. In the same period he also participated in research projects concerning voting behaviour and party competition in Europe.
